The Book of Wanderers Announcement & Cover Context
The time has come! My debut collection of short stories The Book of Wanderers is now available for pre-order. It’s not out until Spring 2022, so until then you can visit this blog to get extra content and learn more about The Book of Wanderers, such as the playlist, inspirations, news, etc. For now, here’s the cover:
The cover depicts La Quebrada in Acapulco, a setting for one of the short stories based off of my visits there as a child. At night was when La Quebrada was most astounding to me, the clavadistas standing near torches that illuminated a stony path into the sea. Each leap was like a fever dream, watching a body plunge into nothingness as everyone held their breath while the ocean crashed against the gulch with spumes of salt that returned to the sea’s darkness. The clavadista would emerge from the ocean, and everyone clapped. Death had been subverted in such an exact and precise way that I wondered how anyone could know to do this. One of the themes of the collection is how knowledge is passed down from generation to generation, even when that knowledge is erased or forbidden. Though they don’t know how wandering came to be such a constant in their lives, the characters in The Book of Wanderers navigate new and treacherous realities with familiarity, as though leaving one world for another is what they know best.
